A note on Bindery's hardcover special editions and To Bargain With Mortals (+ the entire Fall 2025 season)

Hey y'all! I've gotten a few questions about the special edition hardcovers Bindery does for their books and I've answered them as they pop up but realized I don't think I ever said anything at large, so I wanted to drop this real quick.

You might know that Bindery does really beautiful special editions for our releases and they're typically the only hardcover option for our books since they release straight to trade paperback, and you may be wondering what we have in store for BARGAIN! Unfortunately, none of the fall season books are getting one of these editions. The team tried really hard for quite a while to find a solution, but just as many industries are experiencing in various ways, it comes down to the tariffs Trump imposed.

Fun fact: as far as I know, the US doesn't really have large scale printers that can do sprayed edges. This is one of the many situations where people are talking a big game about taxing imports so people buy domestic products without accounting for the fact that these products cannot be made domestically at scale because we just don't have the infrastructure or the skill for it...but I digress. If you have some sprayed edge books on your shelves, take a look at the copyright page and you'll see that most (if not all) of them were printed in China or Italy. Bindery does ours in China and the tariffs imposed earlier this year unfortunately made it completely infeasable on a financial basis given how high the books would have to be priced even just to break even. The team was working on a number of different possible solutions, but alas it simply didn't pan out.

Unfortunate, but what can ya do? The trade paperback of BARGAIN is going to be beautiful as she is and I beliiieeve we're looking into some interesting cover treatments, so I can't wait to see what she looks like fresh from the printer. 108 days until release!
